MPhil Admission & MPhil Admission Test Pattern for All Programs
MPhil Admission in Pakistan
MPhil/MS admission requirements vary from university to university and from
one discipline to another. However, under the current HEC framework, candidates
generally need 16 years of education in the relevant or an
accepted related field. Universities may also require an admission test and
interview.
HEC currently recognizes the HAT (Higher Education Aptitude Test)
as an aptitude test for candidates seeking admission to MS/MPhil and PhD programs.
HAT is offered in different categories according to the candidate's field of
study
Basic Eligibility
Generally, an MPhil/MS applicant should have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification

A relevant degree according
to the selected MPhil program
·
The minimum CGPA/division
prescribed by the university
·
A qualifying
admission/aptitude test
·
An interview, where
required
·
Any additional deficiency
courses prescribed by the department
For example, HEC's revised curriculum for English requires a 16-year
undergraduate degree in English or an applicable specialization and requires
the university to conduct a rigorous admission test with a minimum
passing score of 50%, or accept GRE/HAT General/equivalent testing.
MPhil Admission Test Pattern
There is not one identical test pattern for every MPhil program in
Pakistan. The exact pattern depends on the university and discipline.
According to HEC's current HAT-General pattern, there are basically three sections for MPhil candidates:

Important Point About the 50% Requirement
For many MPhil/MS programs, the admission test requirement is at
least 50%, but this should not be interpreted as a universal fixed
paper pattern or universal merit formula. HEC curriculum documents allow
universities to set higher screening/admission requirements through their
statutory bodies.
For example, the University of the Punjab's 2026 MS/MPhil admission notice
states 50% qualifying marks for its admission test and
separately specifies interview requirements.
